Veteran Ghanaian music producer and entertainment pundit Mark Okraku-Mantey is noted for his blunt and mean commentary on any issue he speaks on. It is fair to say his personality was also one of the reasons TV3 Mentor became very popular.
One of his notable comments “Kwaadaso Akon” an excerpt from the show went viral mainly because of the obvious comic delivery of the singer’s performance. There are many funny videos from the auditions but there were also some quite ‘violent’ incidents as a result of his “rude” comments to the singers.
“Some of my audios didn’t get on air, TV3 deleted some scenes as well. One time, one of the auditionees was so angry at my comments that he dashed to my car to vandalize it but people around interceded quickly and chased after him to beat him and he had to report himself to the police for his own safety,” he said on Daybreak Hitz.
Commenting on MTN Hitmaker judge, Kaywa’s “Bathroom Singer” remarks on Lyzzy Bae who is a contestant on current season of Hitmaker, Mark claimed to have also used that term about 3 times on TV3 Mentor but didn’t receive same backlash.
“I think I got away with some of my comments because social media wasn’t that vibrant then,” he said.
He concluded saying: “Sometimes, the one receiving the message may interpret it differently, but I thank God I’m no longer a judge on any music reality show.”
